In October 2024, I had the privilege of serving as a Deputy Field Organizer for the Harris/Walz Campaign in Naples, Florida. It was a unique opportunity to contribute to a campaign that prioritized community engagement and voter empowerment. My time on the campaign trail was both challenging and rewarding, and it allowed me to make a meaningful impact on the local community.
As part of my role, one of my main responsibilities was volunteer recruitment and management. I worked tirelessly to recruit, train, and manage a team of over 800 passionate volunteers. Together, we knocked on doors, made phone calls, and connected with voters on a personal level. Watching these volunteers grow into confident, effective advocates for the campaign was one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work.
Voter outreach was at the heart of what we did every day. I organized phone banking sessions, coordinated door-to-door canvassing efforts, and led text-banking campaigns to engage as many voters as possible. By the end of the campaign, our outreach efforts had significantly boosted voter registration and turnout in key areas.
To support these efforts, I took on a strategic role in data collection and analysis. Using voter database software such as VAN, I ensured that our data on voter preferences, volunteer engagement, and canvassing results were accurate and actionable. This data informed our strategies and kept us agile as we adjusted to the ever-changing dynamics of the campaign.
Another highlight was my involvement in event planning and execution. From town halls to voter registration drives and community gatherings, I had the chance to bring people together and foster dialogue. These events weren’t just about rallying support—they were about connecting with people, listening to their concerns, and building trust.
Collaboration was critical to the campaign’s success. Working closely with regional field directors, I helped to develop and implement outreach strategies that aligned with our goals. Whether it was setting daily canvassing targets or brainstorming ways to engage undecided voters, teamwork played a vital role in every success we achieved.
Educating voters on the candidates’ platforms was another essential part of my work. I focused on voter education and persuasion, tailoring our messaging to resonate with undecided voters and historically underrepresented communities.
I also contributed to campaign communications. From crafting email newsletters to distributing campaign literature and managing social media content, I ensured that our messaging stayed consistent and impactful.
Of course, no campaign is without its challenges. Whether it was addressing logistical hiccups or resolving volunteer concerns, problem-solving and crisis management became second nature to me. I took pride in finding quick, effective solutions to keep our operations running smoothly.
Throughout this experience, I remained committed to compliance and reporting. By adhering to local, state, and federal election laws, and submitting detailed reports to campaign leadership, I helped maintain the integrity and transparency of our efforts.
Reflecting on my time with the Harris/Walz Campaign, I’m proud of the impact we made. We inspired voters to take action, gave them a voice, and strengthened the democratic process. This experience not only shaped my professional journey but also deepened my commitment to community-focused work. It was an honor to be part of a movement that brought people together and amplified the power of grassroots advocacy.
